What Are Tear Trough Fillers?

Tear trough fillers – also known as under-eye fillers – are a specialised, non-surgical treatment designed to restore volume, smooth hollows, and reduce dark circles beneath the eyes. Using premium hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers, the procedure subtly blends the transition between the lower eyelid and cheek, creating a fresher, more youthful appearance with immediate, natural-looking results.

At Omniya Clinic, our highly experienced medical team use advanced techniques for precise, comfortable treatment with minimal downtime. While the focus is on the under-eye area, we can also enhance surrounding features – such as temples, brows, lips, and cheeks – for balanced facial harmony.

For a more comprehensive result, we often combine tear trough fillers with skin boosters or polynucleotide injections to improve skin quality and stimulate collagen production, extending the benefits well beyond the treatment itself.

Recognised as one of the UK’s leading clinics for tear trough rejuvenation, Omniya is trusted for its meticulous approach and consistently natural results. Every treatment is tailored to your unique needs, helping you look brighter, more refreshed, and confident.

Why Have Tear Trough Treatment?

The under-eye area is one of the first places to reveal signs of ageing and fatigue. Over time, loss of volume, thinning skin, and lifestyle factors can create dark circles, hollows, and fine lines – making you look more tired than you feel.

Tear trough filler is a minimally invasive way to restore lost volume, smooth the under-eye contour, and brighten the area. Using hyaluronic acid-based fillers, we can reduce hollows, soften fine lines, and improve skin quality, leaving you with a refreshed, natural look that restores facial balance and boosts confidence. Results are visible immediately, with minimal downtime, and can last for many months.

Tear trough fillers can improve:

  • Hollowness: Caused by ageing, dehydration, lack of sleep, or weight loss.
  • Dark circles: Often linked to genetics, lifestyle, or poor circulation.
  • Fine lines and wrinkles: A result of collagen and elastin breakdown over time.

At Omniya Clinic, every tear trough treatment begins with a personalised consultation. We assess your facial anatomy, discuss your concerns, and create a plan that delivers natural-looking results while prioritising your comfort and safety.

Before Your Treatment

During your consultation, one of our experienced practitioners will:

  • Review your medical history
  • Examine your under-eye area and overall facial balance
  • Discuss your goals, benefits, and potential risks

To help reduce the chance of swelling or bruising, we recommend:

  • Avoiding alcohol for 24 hours beforehand
  • Avoiding aspirin and ibuprofen for at least 48 hours before your appointment
  • Following any additional guidance provided during your consultation

Our team will ensure you feel fully informed and prepared before treatment day.

The Procedure

Your appointment begins with the application of a topical anaesthetic for comfort. Using advanced techniques, your practitioner will carefully inject a hyaluronic acid-based filler into the tear trough area, restoring lost volume and improving skin quality.

  • Treatment time: Around 30 minutes
  • Results: Visible immediately
  • Optional add-ons: Can be combined with treatments such as midface lifts, brow lifts, or liquid eye lifts for enhanced rejuvenation

After Your Treatment

Most patients return to daily activities the same day. Some may experience mild swelling or bruising for a few days, which typically resolves quickly.

To optimise your results:

  • Apply a cold compress periodically for the first 24 hours
  • Avoid makeup or skincare for at least 4 hours post-treatment
  • Gently cleanse after 6 hours, avoiding rubbing
  • Avoid heat, steam rooms, saunas, or extreme cold for 2 weeks
  • Refrain from strenuous exercise, alcohol, and extreme temperatures for 48 hours

Our team will provide you with personalised aftercare instructions and remain available for any questions as you recover.

Causes of Hollow or Dark Under-Eyes

Hollow or dark under-eyes can be caused or worsened by a range of factors, including:

  • Age: Natural loss of fat and thinning skin in the under-eye area over time.
  • Genetics: A hereditary tendency towards hollows or dark circles.
  • Sun damage: UV exposure breaks down collagen and elastin, making skin thinner and more prone to shadows and wrinkles.
  • Lifestyle: Poor sleep, smoking, and dehydration can intensify darkness or hollowness.

Common symptoms include:

  • Dark circles or shadows beneath the eyes
  • Hollow or sunken appearance
  • Visible blood vessels due to thin skin
  • Puffiness or under-eye bags

How tear trough fillers can help:

By restoring volume and smoothing the under-eye contour, this non-surgical treatment can reduce shadows, brighten the area, and create a fresher, more youthful appearance.

Tear Trough Fillers Treatment FAQs

How do tear trough fillers work?

Tear trough fillers restore volume to the hollow area beneath the eyes using a hyaluronic acid-based dermal filler. By gently filling this depression, the treatment smooths the under-eye contour, reduces shadowing, and brightens the area, diminishing the appearance of dark circles for a fresher, more rested look.

Can fillers help with bags under the eyes?

A consultation is essential to assess your concerns and discuss realistic expectations.

In some cases, tear trough fillers can help camouflage mild under-eye bags by adding volume to the surrounding areas, creating a smoother transition between the lower eyelid and cheek. However, they are not always the best solution, particularly for more prominent bags or excess skin.

Your practitioner will advise you on whether fillers are suitable in your case and, if not, recommend alternative treatments that may achieve a better result.

Which filler is best for the tear trough?

Not all dermal fillers are created equal – quality matters when it comes to safety and results. At Omniya Clinic, we use only premium products from trusted global brands such as Allergan and Teoxane (makers of Juvederm and Teosyal).

The best filler for your tear trough treatment will depend on several factors, including your skin texture, the look you want to achieve, the specific treatment area, and the preference of your practitioner. During your consultation, we’ll recommend the most suitable product to deliver natural, long-lasting results.

Do you only do filler treatments? What about Botox anti wrinkle injections?

Omniya Clinic was established to help you look and feel beautiful inside and out. We have carefully selected a number of complementary treatments with proven benefits to help us achieve this. As well as procedures for the tear troughs, we believe Botox anti wrinkle injection plays an important role in helping you feel better, on the outside. We also offer a variety of other filler treatment, not just for the tear troughs. For more information, please call us on 020 7584 4777.

What is the aftercare advice?

Your doctor will provide you with full aftercare advice, but in general:

  • Avoid massaging the area (for up to 5 days)
  • No exercise, and
  • No treatments around the area

How long do I need to recover?

You may have some bruising or swelling (common for any dermal filler treatment). If indeed you do bruise (and not everyone does), the extent varies from person to person, but if you follow our advice before your treatment (avoid blood thinners, take arnica tablets prior, for example), your chances of bruising will be reduced.

Do dermal fillers help with dark circles?

Yes, tear trough fillers help to reduce the appearance of dark circles. It does this by adding volume the area, which in turn smooths out hollowing and/or shadows.

Can you use fillers for under eye wrinkles?

If your concern is wrinkles and fine lines, it may be more suitable to consider Botox wrinkle injections, which work by relaxing the muscles that cause wrinkles.

Dermal fillers, on the other hand, are commonly used to add volume. By adding volume, you can improve the appearance of wrinkles, but it may not be the most effective method to achieve your ultimate goal.

For this reason, an initial consultation is advised where you present your concerns to the experts, who will advise you on the best option to address the concerns.

Is tear trough filler painful?

You may feel some discomfort, so topical anaesthetic can be applied, before you start your dermal filler treatment. Furthermore, the fillers may also contain anaesthetic (not all products do), which makes the procedure much more comfortable.

The medical practitioners at Omniya Clinic are highly skilled, precise and understanding when performing tear trough treatments. We want you to feel safe and comfortable throughout the duration of your treatment.

How much do tear trough fillers cost?

At Omniya Clinic, tear trough filler treatments start from £410. The final cost can vary depending on several factors, including:

  • The type of dermal filler used

  • The amount of product required

  • Whether additional areas are treated at the same time

We believe pricing should reflect both expertise and patient safety. Our treatments are carried out by highly experienced medical professionals, using premium products, to deliver natural-looking and effective results.

Who is an ideal candidate for tear trough fillers?

The ideal candidate for tear trough fillers is someone with under-eye hollows, dark circles, or fine lines. Tear trough fillers are particularly beneficial for those experiencing a “tear trough deformity,” where a hollow groove forms between the lower eyelid and cheek due to ageing.

Can Other Procedures Be Done at the Same Time?

A range of complementary treatments can be performed alongside under-eye fillers, which can be discussed during your consultation. For patients looking for more extensive rejuvenation, the liquid facelift also targets the lower face, lifting and softening the jowls, chin, corners of the mouth, and neck, providing a balanced and refreshed look. This procedures involve the careful placement of filler and injectables in key areas around the eyes, temples, brows, and cheeks, helping to create a more youthful, softened, and natural appearance.

Profhilo and polynucleotides are popular treatments for improving skin quality, can also be administered alongside tear trough fillers, enhancing hydration and skin elasticity.

How quickly will I see results from tear trough fillers?

The results of tear trough fillers are visible immediately after the procedure, which typically takes around 20 minutes. However, the final outcome will become more apparent over the following weeks as the filler integrates with the surrounding tissue.

Are under eye filler results natural?

Yes, the expected results of tear trough fillers are designed to look natural. Patients can expect subtle yet noticeable improvements without looking dramatically different. Our practitioners, use their expertise in facial anatomy to ensure that the results enhance your appearance in a way that aligns with your expectations.

During your consultation, there will be plenty of time to discuss your goals to make sure the outcome meets your desires, leaving no room for surprises post-treatment.

Are there side effects from tear trough fillers?

While tear trough fillers are generally safe, there are some potential side effects:

  • Common: Mild soreness, redness, swelling, or bruising around the injection site. These usually subside within a few days.
  • Less Common: Post-procedure infection, which can be treated with antibiotics.
  • Rare: More serious complications like filler migration or vascular occlusion, though these are extremely rare.

If any severe side effects occur, it is crucial to contact your practitioner immediately.
