Laser Pigmentation Removal

at Omniya Clinic in London

Best Treatment for Pigmentation on the Face

Pigmentation occurs when excess melanin, the pigment responsible for skin colour, builds up in certain areas of the skin. This can be triggered by sun exposure, hormonal changes, ageing, or inflammation, leading to uneven tone, dark patches, or sun spots.

At Omniya Clinic in Knightsbridge, we use the advanced Alexandrite laser to target and break down excess melanin within the skin. This precise wavelength of light is absorbed by pigmented cells, gently fragmenting them so they can be naturally eliminated by the body. The surrounding skin remains unaffected, ensuring a safe and effective treatment even for delicate facial areas.

This approach delivers visible improvements for sun spots, age spots, freckles, and uneven pigmentation, helping to restore a smoother, more balanced complexion over a series of treatments.

A consultation and patch test are required before your first session to ensure the safest and most effective treatment plan.

Who Is Suitable for Laser Pigmentation Removal ?

Our laser pigmentation removal treatment is most effective for individuals with fair skin tones, as the laser can more precisely target the contrast between the pigment and the surrounding skin. It is ideal for those looking to reduce facial pigmentation, including:

  • Sun spots
  • Skin discoloration
  • Age spots
  • Dark spots
  • Freckles

This treatment is generally not recommended for individuals with darker skin tones. We offer a free consultation with our skin specialists to help you find the best treatment to address your specific concerns.

Cynosure Elite iQ Laser System

Our laser system, the Cynosure Elite iQ, harnesses the power of an Alexandrite laser, utilising an Alexandrite crystal as the laser medium. This technology allows the laser to emit infrared light at a precise wavelength of 755nm. The Alexandrite wavelength is renowned for its effectiveness in targeting melanin in the skin, making it ideal for a wide range of cosmetic and dermatological treatments. Cynosure Elite iQ is FDA-cleared, ensuring tailored treatment options that optimize both safety and efficacy for our patients.

How Does Our Laser Treatment Remove Pigmentation?

Our laser treatment for pigmentation harnesses focused light energy to specifically target and disintegrate melanin, the pigment responsible for skin colour variations. The targeted approach allows the laser to selectively treat darker spots and areas without damaging the surrounding skin. The light energy absorbed by the pigment converts to heat, breaking the pigment into smaller particles. These particles are then naturally eliminated by the body’s immune system, effectively reducing visible pigmentation and improving skin appearance.  A complimentary laser patch test will also be carried out before the appointment to ensure suitability.

Laser Pigmentation Removal FAQs

Do I need a laser patch test even if I have had laser treatment before?

Yes, as every clinic needs a record of a laser patch test been carried out for safety and insurance purposes. A patch test ensures there are no adverse reactions before going ahead with full treatment. Your test is normally performed on an area that is not directly visible to anyone else and you will need to wait for 48h ours before you can go ahead with your first treatment. This is complimentary and carried out during your consultation.

Is the treatment painful?

Laser pigmentation removal is generally well-tolerated by most clients. The sensation experienced during the treatment is often compared to the snap of a rubber band against the skin. Some patients might feel a quick, sharp tap, but discomfort is minimal and temporary.

How many sessions are required?

The number of sessions required for optimal results typically ranges from 1 to 2, spaced approximately three weeks apart. The exact number depends on the type and severity of pigmentation, as well as the individual’s skin response to the treatment.

What should I expect after treatment?

Immediately following the treatment, the treated areas may appear darker and the skin might show some redness or mild swelling. These reactions are normal and indicate the effectiveness of the treatment as the pigmentation begins to break down. These symptoms usually subside within a few days.

What aftercare is required?

Proper aftercare is crucial to ensure the best results and minimise any potential side effects. Clients are advised to avoid sun exposure and to apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen to the treated areas to protect the skin from UV damage. It is also recommended to use gentle skincare products to avoid irritating the treated skin. Keeping the area clean and avoiding abrasive treatments or chemical-laden products will help the skin heal more effectively.

For 48 hours after treatment, we advise avoiding any further heat on the area, such as hot showers or baths, as well as intense exercise and active skincare products. However, the use of skincare products is advised on an individual basis during the consultation. It’s also important to follow any specific instructions provided by your skin specialist.

Are there any side effects?

Common side effects include temporary changes in pigmentation, mild swelling, and redness, which typically resolve within a few days to weeks. In rare cases, blistering or temporary lightening or darkening of the skin can occur.

How quickly will I see results?

Visible improvements are generally noticeable within 3-4 weeks after the treatment as the pigmentation fades and the skin heals. The results can continue to improve with subsequent sessions and proper skincare.

Is the treatment safe?

Yes, laser pigmentation removal is safe when performed by qualified practitioners using FDA-approved technology. At Omniya Clinic, we ensure that all treatments meet stringent safety standards and are tailored to the individual’s skin type and pigmentation issues.

Can pigmentation return after treatment?

While laser treatment can significantly reduce pigmentation, it is possible for new pigmentation to occur, particularly if the skin is exposed to the sun without protection and hormonal changes. Maintaining results involves diligent sun protection and adherence to a prescribed skincare regimen.

How does Omniya Clinic ensure the safety of the treatment?

At Omniya Clinic, safety is our top priority. We use only FDA-approved laser technologies and follow strict protocols. Our practitioners are extensively trained and experienced in laser treatments, ensuring each procedure is performed with the highest standards of safety and care.

What other treatments does Omniya Clinic offer for pigmentation?

In addition to laser treatments, Omniya Clinic offers a range of other skincare services, including chemical peels, HydraLite, Moxi laser  that could help with pigmentation. Each treatment is designed to address specific skin concerns, enhancing skin health and appearance.

Is there any downtime?

There is minimal to no downtime associated with laser pigmentation removal. Most clients are able to resume their normal activities immediately after the treatment.

How do I know if I'm a good candidate?

A good candidate for laser pigmentation removal is someone who has visible skin pigmentation issues that they wish to correct, with fair to medium skin tone. Our specialists will evaluate your skin condition and medical history during the initial consultation to determine if this treatment is suitable for you.

Can I wear makeup after the treatment?

It is recommended to avoid makeup on the day of the treatment to allow the skin to heal properly. Once any initial redness or swelling has subsided, you may use makeup to cover any lingering discoloration as the skin continues to heal.

How do I maintain the results?

To maintain the results of your pigmentation treatment, it is crucial to follow a dedicated skincare routine that includes sun protection. Using a broad-spectrum sunscreen, wearing protective clothing, and avoiding direct sun exposure can help prevent new pigmentation from forming. Regular follow-up treatments may also be recommended to keep your skin looking its best.
