What Is Microneedling?
24 February 2020 by Omniya ClinicKerryLou at Omniya Clinic, gives her expert advice and information on what is microneedling.
Microneedling is a well known treatment that uses a mechanised device to make thousands of tiny needle punctures in your skin, this stimulates your natural collagen production. At Omniya Clinic, we use a brand called Dermapen to enable us to provide the best results.
KerryLou has answered some of your frequently asked questions about microneedling:
Microneedling Basics: Question 1
What Can Microneedling Be Used For?
Microneedling can be used to treat a number of skin concerns such as scarring either from an injury or acne, it can help tighten skin, so it can be used to treat fine lines and wrinkles and can even be used on parts of the body to treat stretch marks.
Microneedling Basics: Question 2
What do you need to do to prepare your skin?
There is not much you need to do before your appointment. We don’t recommend having a microneedling treatment if you have a sunburn or active acne. In this case we would rather do a less abrasive treatment to help the healing process of the skin and delay the dermapen treatment.
Microneedling Basics: Question 3
What happens at my treatment?
At the beginning of the treatment you could opt to have numbing cream applied, you’ll need to wait 15 to 20 minutes for your face to be numb and then the procedure will begin.
We normally perform microneedling over the full face, and we always suggest to include the neck. The face is divided into smaller sections to focus on and each area is treated over with the Dermapen 3 times.
The entire microneedling process takes 20 to 30 minutes. The treatment is quick, easy, and (mostly) painless. Bonier areas of your face may feel more sensitive like your temples but it is not unbearable.
Microneedling Basics: Question 4
Are the results of microneedling good?
Immediately after the treatment, your skin will be slightly red. We would advise that you do not wear make up post treatment.
Within 2 to 3 hours the redness will calm down. For the next 3 to 12 hours your skin will feel a little tight or dry but this will go away by the next day.
Over the next few days and weeks your skin will start to improve – you wil notice an improvement in the appearance of scarring, hyperpigmentation and overall skin texture. The full results will come 4 to 6 weeks after the procedure You may notice an improvement in the fine lines especially around the eye area a few weeks after the procedure.
