Discover the Transformative Power of Microneedling

Written by Kerry Payne, Advanced Aesthetician

Kerry Payne is a trusted skincare expert with over two decades of experience in advanced treatments, including microneedling, chemical peels, laser therapies, and IPL. Her personalised approach and deep understanding of skincare science have helped countless clients achieve radiant, healthy skin.

Why Microneedling Might Be Your Skin’s Answer

Have you ever looked in the mirror and noticed acne scars, enlarged pores, or fine lines and wrinkles that seem to stubbornly stay despite your best efforts? These skin concerns are incredibly common, but they can still impact your confidence. For years, I’ve been helping clients overcome these issues with one game-changing treatment: microneedling.

Microneedling isn’t just a buzzword in skincare; it’s a proven, science-backed solution that encourages your skin to repair and rejuvenate itself. At Omniya Clinic, we use cutting-edge devices like SkinPen and Dermapen with Uber Pro Peel to deliver noticeable, long-lasting results.

How Microneedling Works

Microneedling uses a device fitted with ultra-fine needles to create controlled micro-injuries on the skin’s surface. This might sound intense, but the results are incredible. These micro-injuries stimulate your body’s natural healing response, encouraging collagen and elastin production while increasing skin cell turnover.

Why is collagen so important? It’s the protein responsible for keeping your skin firm, plump, and youthful. As we age, collagen production slows, leading to sagging skin and wrinkles. Microneedling helps to reverse this process by stimulating new collagen growth in deeper layers of the skin.

How Microneedling Tackles Acne Scarring

I’ve worked with countless clients who have struggled with acne scars, and microneedling has been life-changing for many of them. There are two primary types of acne scarring microneedling can address:

1. Pitted Scars

These scars are formed when inflammation from severe acne damages collagen, leaving depressions or craters. Studies in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology have shown that microneedling can significantly reduce the appearance of pitted scars by promoting collagen production. Over a series of sessions, these scars become less pronounced, and the skin’s surface appears smoother.

2. Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH)

PIH occurs when acne leaves behind dark marks, caused by excess melanin production during the healing process. By increasing cell turnover, microneedling helps fade these spots, revealing a more even complexion.

How Microneedling Helps with Enlarged Pores

Pores often become more visible due to excess oil production, congestion, or even the natural ageing process. Enlarged pores were one of the first skin concerns I treated with microneedling, and the results were phenomenal.

Microneedling works by stimulating the skin around the pores to tighten, making them appear smaller. Additionally, it encourages the production of fresh skin cells, helping to improve texture and reduce pore visibility.

Microneedling for Fine Lines and Wrinkles

I’ve had clients in their 30s, 40s, and beyond tell me how microneedling has been a game-changer for their fine lines andwrinkles. As we age, collagen and elastin levels naturally decline, leaving the skin thinner and more prone to creases.

Microneedling rejuvenates the skin by:

  • Stimulating Collagen Production: This helps to firm and plump the skin, reducing the depth of wrinkles.
  • Improving Elasticity: It gives the skin a more youthful bounce and resilience.
  • Enhancing Product Absorption: After treatment, serums and moisturisers penetrate deeper into the skin, boosting their effectiveness.

Microneedling for Overall Skin Radiance

Not everyone who opts for microneedling has a specific skin concern. Many of my clients simply want to restore a healthy glow to their skin. Whether it’s due to stress, lack of sleep, or seasonal changes, dull skin can affect anyone.

Microneedling revitalises the complexion by enhancing blood flow, promoting cell turnover, and stimulating the production of fresh, healthy skin cells. For added radiance, I often recommend combining microneedling with treatments like the OmniSculpt RF Facial or OmniJuve Facial.

Preparing for Your Microneedling Appointment

Proper preparation can make all the difference. Here’s what I tell my clients to do before their treatment:

Two Weeks Before

  • Avoid direct sun exposure and always wear SPF.
  • Stop using retinoids, glycolic acid, and exfoliating products.
  • Refrain from other cosmetic treatments, like chemical peels or lasers.

On the Day of Your Treatment

  • Arrive with clean, makeup-free skin.
  • Stay hydrated and eat a light meal beforehand.

What to Expect During Microneedling

The treatment itself typically takes 30–60 minutes. A numbing cream is applied beforehand to minimise discomfort. The sensation is often described as light pressure or a tingling feeling.

After the session, your skin may appear red and feel slightly warm, much like a mild sunburn. This usually subsides within 1–3 days.

Microneedling Aftercare: Maximising Your Results

To achieve the best results, it’s essential to follow these aftercare guidelines:

  • Avoid makeup, exercise, and hot showers for 24–48 hours.
  • Use a gentle, hydrating serum or cream to soothe the skin.
  • Apply SPF 50+ daily to protect your skin from UV damage.
  • Steer clear of retinol and active skincare products for one week.
