HydraNeedling: Contraindications, Pre-Care and Post Care Instructions

Introduction

Welcome to Omniya Clinic’s guide to your HydraNeedling treatment. Below, you will find comprehensive contraindications, pre-care and post-care information for your treatment. If you have any questions, please contact our reception team who will be happy to assist you.

Medical History

If it is your first time seeing an aesthetician at Omniya Clinic please click here to fill out your Medical History Form in advance of your appointment.

Please note: If there are any medical changes or if you have been taking any new medication since the last time you visited us, please inform us before you attend the clinic to ensure you are still suitable to have the treatment.

Contraindications

This treatment is contraindicated if you are or have:

  • Active Infections or Lesions
    • Bacterial or fungal infection in the treatment area
    • Open lesion or cold sore
    • Active sunburn
  • Viral and Systemic Conditions
    • HIV, hepatitis, or other significant viral infections
    • History of Herpes Simplex (prophylactic antiviral medication may be advised)
    • Active shingles or chickenpox (treatment should be restricted)
  • Medication and Therapy Considerations
    • Known aspirin allergy (as determined by a patch test)
    • Use of anticoagulant therapy (e.g., warfarin, aspirin, coumadin, ibuprofen, fish oils, ginkgo biloba, alcohol)
    • Photosensitive medications (treatment should be deferred until after use)
    • Oral isotretinoin (wait 6–10 months before treatment)
    • Accutane use (a 6-month waiting period is required)
    • Topical medications or antibiotics (please consult the clinic for guidance)
    • Recent Botox, aesthetic fillers, or laser treatments (a 2-week waiting period is required)
  • Oncological Concerns
    • Melanoma or lesions suspected of malignancy
    • Active skin cancer:
      • Malignant melanoma and squamous cell carcinoma: 5 years clear required
      • Basal cell carcinoma (Rodent Ulcer): 1 year clear required
      • Any active cancer under consultant care (5 years clear required)
  • Pregnancy and Lactation
    • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Neurological and Cardiac Conditions
    • Neurological disorders (e.g., epilepsy; note that LED light treatment is contraindicated)
    • Cardiac conditions (a doctor’s note is required)
  • Lymphatic Drainage Concerns
    • Urinary system infections (e.g., kidneys, bladder, urethra)
    • Crohn's disease
    •  Hyperthyroidism
    • Deep venous thrombosis
    • Lymphedema
  • Other Medical Conditions
    • Haemophilia or other blood disorders
    •  Diabetes
    • Papulopustular rosacea
    • Solar/actinic keratosis
    • Connective tissue disorders
    • Autoimmune disorders
    • Acne vulgaris (active infections or inflammation may require modification)
    • Eczema, dermatitis, or rashes (treatment may be adapted as necessary)
    • Psoriasis (if the area is inflamed, treatment should not be performed there)
    • Recent plastic/cosmetic surgery (a 4–6 month waiting period is required along with a doctor’s note)

Pre Treatment Advice

Please:

  • Avoid waxing or using other hair removal methods 3-5 days before the treatment
  • If you’ve recently had aesthetic treatments, wait 2 weeks before coming in for the treatment
  • Consider stopping self-medicated anti-coagulant meds (aspirin) and supplements (garlic tablets, omega 3) 7-10 days prior to your treatment; Only consider needling despite aspirin intake if patient accepts increased bleeding risk
  • Don't use any exfoliating products for 3-5 days before treatment
  • Allow 2 weeks since any injectable treatments (Dermal fillers, Botox) and laser treatments and 6 weeks since Radiesse
  • Allow 8 weeks since dermabrasion, resurfacing/ablative radiofrequency
  • Microdermabrasion, superficial peel (AHA, BHA), Electrolisys – can be done 1-2 weeks before microneedling
  • Hair removal - 2-3 days before microneedling
  • Spray, self tan – must have passed at least 1 week since last application before microneedling
  • Vit A (tretinoin), Retinoids - wait until skin acclimatised, no or minimal erythema (8 weeks) - stop a week before treatment

Post Treatment Instructions & Expectations

  • One hour after your treatment you will experience reddening of your skin and the pores will still be open
  • The next 24 hours you may continue to experience erythema, petechiae (bruising), minor oedema (swelling); the treated area may feel warm, tingly, tight and/or sensitive immediately after and up to 48hours which is normal.
  • After 1-2 days – there will still be present: mild erythema, petechiae, reduced oedema, minor itching, dry/tight sensation
  • After 2-3 days - reduced erythema, fading of petechiae, dissipated oedema, reduced itching, minor skin flaking
  • Day no. 3-6 - potential slight dryness/ peeling/ flaky skin (particularly if you’ve had the chemical peel and microneedling combination)
  • Day no. 6-7 - full recovery
  • Week 3 - improvement in pigmentation begins
  • Week 4-6 - improvement in lines, wrinkles and scarring begins
  • The treatment area is more susceptible to sunburn, sun damage and hyperpigmentation. Avoid direct sun exposure and use a minimum of SPF 30 product
  • If any breakout purges occur within the next 2 weeks, this is normal.

Post Treatment Advice

  • No make up for 48 hours after your treatment (after that, ideally use mineral make-up with a clean brush)
  • Use prods to soothe and protect skin for the first 1-3 days, after this time period you can return to your regular skincare
  • Avoid direct sunlight, sunbeds or fake tan for 10 days, and always use SPF 30-50, reapplying throughout the day
  • Keep your skin hydrated by using a hyaluronic acid based serum and drink plenty of water
  • Do not use a vitamin c serum for 48 hours, incorporate an antioxidant serum after that time period
  • Avoid alcohol-based toners for 10-14 days
  • Avoid swimming pools, excessive sweating and heat treatments e.g sauna, steam rooms and hot showers/baths for the next 72 hours
  • Do not apply any exfoliating skin products for the next 72 hours e.g exfoliating scrubs, glycolic acid or retinol. Gently exfoliate after 3-5 days
  • Avoid the use of prescription retinoids (e.g. tretinoin) 1 week pre- and post-treatment.
  • Do not shave or wax the hair on the treated area for the next 5-7 days
  • Do not have any clinical treatments (lasers, chemical peels, microdermabrasion, etc) for the next 2 weeks
  • No picking or touching after the treatment.

Cancellations

If you need to rearrange or cancel your appointment for any reason, we operate with a 48 hour cancellation policy, therefore we kindly ask you to inform us within 2 working days if you are unable to attend your appointment.
