- Avoid waxing the area 7 days prior to treatment
- Allow 2 weeks since any injectable treatments (Dermal fillers, Botox)
Post Treatment Instructions & Expectations
Please note the below reported instructions, expectations and advice:
- You may experience some redness in the treatment area that should resolve within a few hours.
- You may notice darkening of your pigmented spots, followed by fading and flaking off at a later stage.
- Follow your aesthetician’s aftercare plan until skin is completely healed – typically one week after the treatment. The skin on your body might take longer to heal, compared to your face
- While the skin is healing, avoid anything that will irritate the skin, such as exfoliants, shaving, too hot or too cold water and swimming pools and spas with multiple chemicals/chlorine.
- Cleanse the skin two times a day with plain, lukewarm water and a gentle cleanser. Use your hands and fingertips to cleanse using gentle patting motions. DO NOT rub, scrub, use an exfoliant soap or skin care brush, e.g. Clarisonic in the treated area.
- Moisturiser should be applied generously with clean hands over treated area and reapplied whenever your skin feels dry. Keep the affected area moist and avoid direct sunlight.
- Sunscreen is a MUST and should be used daily beginning the day of treatment and used consistently. Use sunscreen with Broadband UVA and UVB protection and a SPF of at least 30. Ensure to reapply during sun exposure. DO NOT expose your skin to direct sun exposure for 14 days. The treated area is more prone to sunburn and pigmentation change.
- Wear a wide-brimmed hat or sun protecting clothing post treatment to avoid blistering, scarring, hyperpigmentation and hypopigmentation.
- Avoid strenuous exercise and sweating until after skin has healed.
- If the treated area is especially warm within the first 12 hours after the treatment, a cold compress or ice pack can be used to provide comfort.
- If the skin appears red or swollen (sunburn sensation), an icepack can provide comfort, same as Vitamin E or Aloe Vera applied to the treatment area. In rare cases, oral pain relievers, i.e. Paracetamol or Ibuprofen may be used.
- In the unusual case of broken skin or blistering, contact the clinic immediately.
We are here to support you, so please do let us know if you have any concerns or questions following your treatment.
Complications
While complications are rare, they can occasionally arise, and we believe it’s important to discuss and understand these possibilities openly. We kindly ask patients to carefully follow the aftercare guidance provided, as this helps to minimise any risks and supports a smooth recovery.
- Scarring, though rare, can occur following any intense light procedure.
- Histamine/Hives: some patients develop raised urticaria similar to hives. This irritation usually subsides in a few hours.
- Pigmentary changes: hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation may occur. There is a higher risk in darker skin types.
- Purpura, which is purplish bruising, may occur in the treated area and may appear to be the size and shape of the BBL crystal. These bruises may last for 1-2 weeks. Purpura usually results from having the pulse width too short and/or fluence too high during the treatment. Purpura could also occur from the concomitant use of anticoagulant medications.
- Swelling around the eyes and bridge of nose may occur immediately after a BBL treatment and may remain for 24-48 hours.
Warnings
- There is a risk of “paradoxical effect” resulting from the activation of dormant hair follicles in untreated areas close to hirsute-treated areas in subjects with facial hirsutism, which is diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome and presenting ovarian hyperandrogegism. The indication is that BBL & Moxi could stimulate hair growth.
