Morpheus8 vs Other Skin Rejuvenation Treatments

11 October 2024 by Omniya Clinic

At Ominya Clinic we only offer the best and latest treatments to our patients. Morpheus8 has become a favourite among our patients but how does it compare to other skin rejuvenation treatments? In this post we will break down the benefits of Morpheus8 and how it stacks up against other options in the aesthetic medicine world.

What is Morpheus8

Before we get into comparisons let’s quickly understand what makes Morpheus8 unique. This fractional treatment combines radiofrequency (RF) energy with microneedling allowing for deep targeted treatment of the skin and underlying tissue. Morpheus8 can penetrate up to 4mm on the face and 5mm on the body (or 7mm if done by a doctor) into the skin making it one of the deepest and most effective RF microneedling treatments available.

For more information on the Science behind Morpheus8, read here.

Morpheus8 vs Traditional Microneedling

Traditional microneedling also known as collagen induction therapy has been around for years in aesthetic medicine. It involves creating tiny punctures in the skin to stimulate collagen production and skin renewal. While effective traditional microneedling has its limitations which Morpheus8 addresses.

A 2019 study published in the Journal of Clinical and Aesthetic Dermatology compared RF microneedling (like Morpheus8) to traditional microneedling. The researchers found that RF microneedling resulted in significantly better improvement in acne scars, 80% of patients showed excellent or good results compared to 40% in the traditional microneedling group.

The main differences are:

Depth of Treatment:

Morpheus8 can go up to 7mm (as mentioned above) while traditional microneedling can only go up to 2.5mm. This means we can treat deeper skin layers and even subcutaneous fat.

Collagen Stimulation:

Both treatments stimulate collagen production but the addition of RF energy in Morpheus8 amplifies this effect. A 2020 study in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology found that RF microneedling increased collagen production by 400% 6 months post treatment compared to 206% with traditional microneedling.

Versatility:

Morpheus8 can address a broader range of concerns including skin laxity and fat contraction as it can remodel subdermal adipose tissue.

Morpheus8 vs Fractional Laser Treatments

Fractional laser treatments such as Fraxel or CO2 lasers are another popular option for skin rejuvenation. These treatments use light energy to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin to stimulate collagen production and skin renewal.

A 2018 comparative study published in Lasers in Surgery and Medicine compared fractional RF (like Morpheus8) versus fractional CO2 laser for acne scar treatment. The study found that both were effective but RF had lower risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation especially in patients with darker skin tones.

Main differences:

Downtime:

Morpheus8 has less downtime compared to ablative laser treatments. Most patients can go back to normal activities within 24-48 hours while some laser treatments require a week or more of recovery time.

Skin Type Suitability:

Morpheus8 is safe for all skin types including darker skin tones. Some laser treatments have higher risk of hyperpigmentation in darker skin.

Depth of Treatment:

Both can be adjusted for depth but Morpheus8 can go up to 4mm (up to 7mm for doctors) to target concerns in the deep dermis and subcutaneous tissue.

Morpheus8 vs Ultherapy

Ultherapy is a non-invasive treatment that uses ultrasound energy to lift and tighten skin. Like Morpheus8 it can penetrate deep into the skin to stimulate collagen production.

A 2019 study in the Journal of Clinical and Aesthetic Dermatology compared RF microneedling and high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) for skin tightening. Both were effective but RF microneedling did better in terms of skin texture and overall patient satisfaction.

Comparing:

Treatment Areas: Both can treat the face and neck but Morpheus8 is more versatile and can be used on other body areas.

Pain Level: Many patients find Morpheus8 more comfortable than Ultherapy which can be quite painful without proper pain management.

Results: Both have gradual results over time but Morpheus8 may have more immediate visible results due to skin resurfacing.

Morpheus8 vs Thread Lifts

Thread lifts are a minimally invasive procedure that uses dissolvable sutures to lift and tighten sagging skin. While it can give immediate lifting effects it doesn’t address skin quality like Morpheus8.

A 2019 review in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal said that while thread lifts can give short term results, their long term efficacy is limited. Treatments like Morpheus8 give more sustainable results by stimulating the body’s natural collagen production.

Main differences:

Longevity of Results: Morpheus8 results can last for years with maintenance, thread lift results last 6-12 months.

Skin Quality Improvement: Morpheus8 improves overall skin texture and tone, thread lifts only addresses sagging.

Versatility: Morpheus8 can treat more concerns such as acne scars and hyperpigmentation which thread lifts can’t.

Results and Downtime

When considering any aesthetic treatment it’s important to weigh the results against the downtime. Morpheus8 has a great balance in this regard. A 2021 study in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology found that patients who underwent RF microneedling had significant improvement in skin laxity, wrinkles and overall skin quality with minimal downtime. Most patients can go back to normal activities within 24-48 hours and optimal results visible after 3-6 months.

Compared to more aggressive treatments like deep chemical peels or ablative laser resurfacing which requires 1-2 weeks of downtime and similar long term results Morpheus8 is a good option for those who can’t afford extended recovery periods.

Cost

Costs vary widely depending on clinic and patient needs but Morpheus8 is competitively priced when you consider the number of concerns it can treat. At Omniya Clinic we offer personalised treatment plans that gives great value for the results.

You should also consider not just the upfront cost but the number of sessions and longevity of results. Morpheus8 often requires fewer sessions than traditional microneedling or some laser treatments to get optimal results and may give better long term value.

Suitable for Different Skin Types and Concerns

One of Morpheus8’s strengths is its suitability for different skin types and concerns. Unlike some laser treatments which can cause hyperpigmentation in darker skin tones Morpheus8 is safe for most skin types. A 2020 study in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology found RF microneedling to be safe and effective for skin rejuvenation in patients with Fitzpatrick skin types I-VI

Morpheus8 can effectively address:

This makes it a great option for patients with multiple skin concerns and may reduce the need for multiple treatments.

Combining Morpheus8 with Other Treatments

While Morpheus8 is effective on its own, it can also be combined with other treatments for enhanced results. At Omniya Clinic, we often create bespoke treatment plans that combine Morpheus8 with complementary procedures such as dermal fillers or Botox.

A 2022 study in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal found that combining RF microneedling with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) led to superior results in treating acne scars compared to RF microneedling alone. This synergistic approach allows us to address multiple aspects of skin ageing simultaneously, providing comprehensive rejuvenation.
