Scarring and Stretch Marks: Causes, Symptoms & Treatments

at Omniya Clinic in London

What is scarring and stretch marks ?

As a part of your body’s natural repair process, scarring and stretch marks often occur because of events such as pregnancy and rapid growth. Scars and stretch marks initially appear as fine red lines, eventually fading to white.

Whether you have recently experienced a rapid weight loss or have recovered from an injury which has left you with a visible scar, the team at Omniya is here to help you feel more comfortable with your scarring and stretch marks. We recognise that whilst being completely natural, stretch marks and scarring can have a negative impact on your self-image.

When you attend your consultation at Omniya, a member of our professional team will discuss the area of treatment and procedure which will be best suited towards your desired results. From there, we will draw up your personalised treatment plan and detail the next steps for your procedure.

What treatments are available at Omniya?

Our London clinic offers a range of treatments to help reduce the appearance of your scars and stretch marks.

What are the causes of scarring and stretch marks?

Scars often occur as a result of the body’s naturally healing process after trauma. When skin is wounded, tissues break causing a protein called collagen to be released. Collagen builds up around the damaged tissue, helping to heal and strengthen the wound.

Stretch marks are often a result of rapid change or pregnancy. Commonly, the outer layer of the skin grows at such a rapid rate that the inner layer, also called the dermis, can’t keep up.

Collagen and elastin are produced in the dermis; stretch marks appear when not enough of these proteins are being produced. Stretch marks also occur during rapid stages of growth, especially during teenage years. The marks appear most often on the stomach, thighs, breasts, and upper arms.
