Q & A With Our Expert – KerryLou Herbert
21 March 2022 by Omniya ClinicKerryLou is a qualified Beauty Therapist and Aesthetician with over 13 years of experience. Before joining Omniya, she was the lead role at one of London’s premier skin clinics on Harley Street, specialising in laser and machine-based treatments, championing the development and enhancement of skin protocols for all skin types to ensure the highest quality of patient care.
She has appeared on ITV’s ‘This Morning’ and has also been featured in numerous publications.
How do you think public perception of Beauty Treatments and Aesthetics has changed over the last ten years?
It has changed massively. The public now see our industry as results-driven and come looking for amazing improvements in the areas causing them concern, rather than just coming for a relaxation treatment.
Due to social media that shows celebrities having treatments, but not necessarily informing the audience how many sessions they have had etc, it has created misleading expectations of fast results – when very often, these treatments require more than one session for optimum results.
There are other factors too, such as skin type, kind of treatment, lifestyle, which all impact the end result.
Customers also expect longer-lasting results now, for example laser hair reduction rather than waxing.
What’s your favourite treatment (either for yourself or for your patients)?
My favourite treatment to perform in the clinic is laser treatment for thread veins. I love working with all types of lasers, and machines in general- my specialised area! The results with thread veins are so satisfying to see after one-to-three sessions.
What advice would you give to young people wanting to work in Beauty and Aesthetics?
Ensure you gain your level 3 in Beauty Therapy – it’ll give you a good starting point in your career. This will make it easier to qualify in other treatments. Then, if you’d like to go down the laser and IPL route, you can then do the level 4 laser course which the majority of clinics and businesses are now asking for.
Gaining experience in different beauty businesses such as a salon, spa, or clinic will also help you gauge which path of the beauty and aesthetics industry you would like to succeed in.
As soon as you are qualified in level 2 Beauty Therapy, I would encourage you to find a part time Beauty Therapist role whilst studying your level 3. This will help gain your confidence in treatments and maintain what you have learned. It will also be easier to then progress, gaining knowledge and experience, once you are fully qualified.
Be passionate and don’t forget to learn from other experienced practitioners around you- knowledge is power!
How long have you worked at Omniya? What do Omniya do differently from other clinics?
I have now worked at Omniya Clinic for five years. I thoroughly enjoy (and I’m grateful to be) working alongside practitioners that are the best in their field of work. Omniya really do have the best hand-picked doctors and practitioners that are results-driven and at the top in what they do with a great work ethic – something I really value here in comparison to other clinics.
Alongside amazing customer service – from fast email responses to follow up calls, and generally being there for our clients in a timely manner. This is something I admire here, as our industry is very fast paced – a clinic that can keep up a great service is rare to come by.
What was it like going on “This Morning”?
Working with ITV 2 on ‘This Morning’ was a great experience for me, they came in to film the treatments and interview me to find out more information. I was approached to be on their live show, as I won ‘Best cheat to the beach’ for treating cellulite reduction (still proud!) out of all the clinics and treatments that were entered. Due to unavoidable circumstances, I was unable to take part in the live show. However, they showcased a video clip of me performing the treatment for their viewers.
