3 June 2021 by Omniya Clinic

Botox and Dermal Fillers are great ways for you to boost your confidence (especially after a tough year). Now that we’re coming out of a difficult period of lockdown, getting botox, dermal fillers or a combination of botox and dermal fillers is the perfect way to get rid of wrinkles or bring some fullness to your face. We’ve spent the last few months staring at our laptop screens in zoom meetings with bad webcams and unflattering angles. So, if you’re suffering from ‘Zoom face or you want to take the next step in your skincare journey, you’ll find everything you need to know about botox and dermal fillers, as well as the differences between them in this article.

What Is Botox?

Botox is a name for Botulinum toxin, which is a neurotoxic protein that causes the muscles to paralyse when injected. Botox causes the muscle to relax which then makes the skin that is overlaying the muscle appear smoother. Botox is most commonly used for wrinkles but is also used for treating teeth grinding, excessive sweating and gummy smile.

What Are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are substances like Calcium Hydroxylapatite, Hylauronic Acid or Polylactic Acid that are injected into your face to fill lines and wrinkles as well as add volume to areas of your face like your lips and cheeks. The main difference between dermal fillers and botox is that botox is used to relax the muscles to get rid of wrinkles, however, dermal fillers are used to fill those lines with a specific substance (Your doctor will know exactly which one to use).

Botox And Dermal Fillers – Do they hurt?

Botox

Botox is administered using a sterile needle and should only be administered by an experienced professional (Check out our ‘Meet The Experts‘ page to see who will treat you at Omniya). Dr Thu-Linh Nguyen, from Omniya Clinic, says she uses Local Anaesthetic before botox to minimise discomfort and is always very gentle with her treatment. After your treatment, you won’t feel any effects of the botox except for some possible minor bleeding and it may be a bit red, but this will disappear in a few hours.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal Fillers are also injected using a needle however they will cause very little discomfort, especially when administered by a professional, who will use a local anaesthetic. Dr Thu-Linh Nguyen from Omniya said she always uses numbing cream 15 minutes before and also mentioned that all dermal fillers have Local Anaesthetic in them. After the treatment, you may see some redness, swelling or tenderness but they will usually resolve themselves after a few days.

How Long Does Botox And Dermal Fillers Last?

Botox

Botox treatments usually last for 3-4 months, depending on the amount used.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal Fillers usually last for 9-12 months and also depends on the area of the face as well as the amount of filler used.

How Much Do Dermal Fillers And Botox Cost?
