Your Guide to Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy, or vampire facials as it’s often known, is the celebrity cosmetic treatment of choice, and is not for the squeamish. If your skin is looking dull or tired, you’re concerned about ageing or you want a more even skin tone, perhaps one which has its natural blemishes removed and gives you a clearer, more rested look, then this facial can really help.

Platelet Rich Plasma therapy involves removing a syringe full of blood and separating it into its individual components. The platelet rich plasma cells and growth factors are the prize here. Once they’ve been obtained, by spinning the removed blood in a centrifuge, they are re-injected into the skin.

The whole process is designed to trigger the body’s healing system. The body is tricked into thinking that the skin is in need of repair and so produces fresh skin tissue in response, providing you with fresher, younger looking skin.

Does Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy Hurt?

If you’re considering having this treatment, then presumably you’ve seen the photos of Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) patients with the blood on their faces immediately following the facial. Kim Kardashian published a photo of herself on her social media account. She then went on to explain that he sister is a huge fan of what these facials can achieve.

However, at Omniya Clinic, in London, we try to practise pain free therapy, as much as possible, so for that reason we will apply anaesthetic before your Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy. The treatment does involve an ultra fine needle, but you should just feel a scratch. The blood is not indicative of any pain involved.

There’s no getting away from the fact that seeing your own blood on your face as part of a process that promises to enhance your appearance feels misleading, but it works. Once the initial bleeding has finished (it’s over very quickly) your skin will be working hard to heal itself.

What does Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy treat?

With fresh skin comes fresh collagen, and collagen is the key to youthful-looking skin. Our collagen production decreases in our late twenties. At this point, we start to develop the first hints of fine lines and wrinkles. Once an increase in collagen production has been triggered, our lines and wrinkles will begin to fade.

PRP therapy can reduce sun damage, scars and signs of ageing, giving you a naturally more youthful look. It is worth noting, however, that it is more effective on some people over others. That's the same for almost all treatments.

In order to find out if you’d be a good candidate for Platelet Rich Plasma therapy and whether or not a vampire facial could significantly turn back the clock on your appearance for you, it’s worth giving us a call to find out more.

If you have an event with a specific date to work towards, and you need your skin to look it's best, please get in touch with us.
